Horseback riding is a well-loved activity with a long tradition at NCS. Our program offers a tremendous opportunity for children to learn patience, develop confidence, and find joy in real accomplishment. By learning to manage an animal many times larger than oneself—from the saddle and from the ground—our students learn important life skills and often continue to enjoy the sport after graduation.
Children ride in the fall and spring and learn proper technique and safety procedures. Children practice horse care during barn chores. When students have learned to saddle, bridle, and care for their mounts, and have demonstrated adequate riding skills, lessons move beyond the riding rings to the school’s many miles of wooded trails.
Especially keen students have the opportunity to continue to hone their skills on the school’s drill team. This is a spring offering with several opportunities to demonstrate their skills to the community.
