LAUREN MCGOVERN

Learning Support Program Coach

Lauren joined NCS as the Admissions and Development assistant in 2002, became the School’s counselor in 2007, and moved into the 5th/6th grade Humanities teaching position in September 2020. After two years in the classroom and providing some academic coaching, Lauren now works full-time with the Learning Support Program. She grew up on a small farm in nearby Peru and lives in Wilmington with her family. Lauren has worked in the fields of outdoor education, crisis intervention, and community relations. She holds a BA in Communication Arts, with a concentration in journalism, from the College of New Rochelle; she earned her MS in Counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Counseling from Plattsburgh State University. She holds both New York State School Counselor and National Counselor certifications. Lauren loves engaging students as readers, writers, and researchers while also bringing a healthy dose of social-emotional learning into her work. When Lauren was in middle school, she gave herself a disastrous haircut, wrote an insipid Young Adult novel for a national competition (she did not win), and wished she lived somewhere else. Lauren now appreciates her adulthood in the Adirondacks, living and working in such an amazing place.
