Over the past two weeks, students have had the opportunity to experience the profound lessons our working educational farm offers—from watching a skilled butcher at work to participating in cherished school traditions, including Potato Harvest and a celebration of the year’s hard work during Harvest Fest.

For a child starting at boarding school, finding a sense of belonging can make all the difference. At NCS, intentional traditions, shared adventures, and everyday moments of connection help students move from unfamiliar faces to trusted friends—and, over time, a community that feels like home.

From hiking campus trails and studying nature to finding the fun in math, Inside NCS explores how students are learning to ask questions, think creatively, and discover where curiosity can lead.

As the school year draws to a close, students across campus are celebrating months of learning, creativity, collaboration, and growth. From poetry performances and a student-written play to releasing salmon fry, paddling 26 miles through the Saranac Lakes, and preparing for beloved community traditions, these final weeks offer plenty to celebrate and reflect on.

As the school year winds to a close, we are celebrating culminating moments across campus: a long-awaited play’s debut on the Don Rand Theater stage, poetry recitations that honor the rich, emotional language of storytelling and performance, and end-of-term music performances that showcase months of practice, collaboration, and growth.

As spring unfolds across campus, NCS students are leaning into the curiosity, creativity, and resilience that make these final weeks of the school year so meaningful. From researching local history and cultivating mushrooms to rehearsing a shipwreck, paddling through unpredictable weather, and celebrating the community that makes NCS feel like home, learning is happening everywhere.
