Thank you for your interest in North Country School! Whether a private, independent junior boarding and day school is something you have been considering for a while or something you are just beginning to think about, we would love to tell you a little more about the experience of living and learning at NCS.

As a small school in Upstate New York’s Adirondack Park, we offer a safe, nurturing education that has helped students develop resilience, compassion, and a love of learning since 1938. Our hands-on lessons connect students in meaningful ways to what they are learning in the classroom.

As a founding member school of Alice Waters’ Edible Schoolyard Project, our farm and garden program teaches students the value of hard work and the joy in contributing to their community. 

Our extensive art programs and “art every day” philosophy allow students to develop and express their creativity, and our outdoor program instills confidence and a love of nature.

Family-style houses are the center of community at NCS, fostering belonging and strengthening student well-being outside of the classroom. Our nurturing faculty give children the care and support they need to develop strong character through the crucial development stages of adolescence. 

At NCS, students don’t just learn from an academic standpoint—they learn how to be their authentic selves, how to be a part of a community, and how to care for and interact with the natural world around them with intention and respect. They do so in an environment where the use of technology isn’t absent, but intentional. Our alumni go on to use the skills and values they gain here to positively impact the world around them.
